Privacy policy

Last updated:

This policy applies to the Wiki Puzzle app and to the wikipuzzle.app website.

Controller

The controller is the publisher identified in the legal notice. For any question: support@wikipuzzle.app.

Your progress

The app requires no account and no sign-in. Your progress and settings stay on your phone (and in its backups, if you have turned them on); we do not receive them. You can erase them from the app or by uninstalling it.

Server logs

The app downloads its images and texts from our server, wikipuzzle.app, which also hosts the website. For each request, the server records the IP address, the date and time, the address requested, the software identifier (user agent) and the result. These logs are used to keep the service secure and to prevent abuse, on the basis of our legitimate interest in protecting the service. They are deleted after 14 days.

Advertising

The app is free and funded by advertising from Google AdMob, which uses your IP address and technical information about the device and the app to show ads, measure them, limit how often they repeat and prevent fraud.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, your choices are collected by Google’s consent tool when you first open the app. Without your consent, your phone’s advertising identifier is not read, no information is stored on your phone for advertising, and no personalised ads are shown. Only limited ads can then be shown; according to Google, they use neither the advertising identifier nor your phone’s storage. This minimal processing is based on our legitimate interest in funding a free app.

On iPhone, the advertising identifier is used only if you allow it when Apple’s tracking request appears.

You can change your choices at any time in the app (“Privacy” section), and reset or turn off the advertising identifier in your phone’s settings. No ads are targeted at children. Google acts as an independent controller for its own processing: see how Google uses data.

“Remove ads” purchase

The purchase is handled by Google Play or Apple’s App Store, as independent controllers under their own privacy rules. We never receive your payment details, only confirmation that the purchase is valid and the store’s sales reports (for example order number, date, country and price), which we need to perform the contract and keep our accounts. Receipts and purchase confirmations are sent by Apple or Google.

If you write to us

We only receive your email address if you write to us at support@wikipuzzle.app. It is used only to reply to you, on the basis of our legitimate interest in handling the requests we receive. We never send any other email: no newsletter, no advertising, no notifications.

External links

“Learn more” links open an external website in your browser; that website’s own policy applies.

On the website

The website uses no cookies, analytics, trackers or external resources, and stores nothing in your browser; the language is chosen on your device from your browser’s settings. This is why no consent banner is shown. The only records kept are the server logs described above.

Recipients and transfers

Our service providers process data only on our instructions, as processors:

Google (advertising) and the app stores (purchase) receive the data described above as independent controllers. Cloudflare and Google are US companies: the resulting transfers outside Europe are covered by the Data Privacy Framework between Europe and the United States and, where applicable, by standard contractual clauses.

Retention

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct or erase your data, to restrict its processing or to receive it in a portable format; object to processing based on our legitimate interest; withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting what was done before; and give instructions on what happens to your data after your death. Write to us at support@wikipuzzle.app. As we hold almost no data that identifies you, to find a record in the server logs (kept for 14 days) we will need some details, such as the date, the approximate time and your IP address. For data processed by Google or Apple, please also contact them directly. You can lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL, or with the authority of your country (in the United Kingdom, the ICO).

Children

The app and the website are not intended for children under 15.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date of the last update is shown on this page; any significant change will be announced in the app or on the website.
